Serve

"I know of no holiness apart from social holiness." - John Wesley

Serving Our Community

Our congregation’s work beyond the walls of Christ Church is as important as what takes place within them. As a matter of fact, they form and inform each other. Our worship is shaped by our service to others, and our service to others is shaped by our worship.

The mission we aspire to embody at Christ Church is: We seek to love God above all things and our neighbors as ourselves. This mission animates all we do and believe, and it states quite clearly that love of God and love of neighbor are inseparable from one another. A Christian, and especially a Christian community, is called above all else to this life of love, a love that is expressed in our service and care for one another, which is a way of loving and honoring God.

Throughout our years of service in our community and beyond, we have grown in our understanding of what it means to serve in a loving way. Service can take many forms, but the service we hope to render is one that dignifies both the one who serves and the one who receives and that attempts to eliminate artificial distinctions between the two. While far from perfect, we seek to serve in ways that build relationships and that acknowledge our service in not simply charity but true generosity. Charity is a necessary and biblical aspect of faith, but true generosity goes further in seeking to build relationships and bridges across societal and economic divides. At Christ Church, our call to love God and neighbor means we seek to build a just world where hands of individuals or entire peoples need be extended less and less in supplication, so that more and more they become human hands that work and, in working, transform the world.

We invite you to join us in this holy work.  In this section of the website, you will find numerous ways you can join us in serving God and neighbor, and in doing so you too will help transform the world.
