Worship is the core of our life, and at the heart of worship at Christ Church is Music. Under the direction of Dr. Steven Pilkington, the Christ Church choir is comprised of professional and volunteer singers, and is one of the most vital in the city. The choir leads congregants during the Sunday services through robust arrangements of music celebrating our love for God and each other, joining voices and a wide range of instruments. The traditional Sunday program is frequently supplemented with innovative musical works that reflect our diverse congregation. Listeners are treated to hymns, psalms, or poems made more inspirational by original musical arrangements written by Dr. Pilkington. If you are interested in adding your voice to this fine musical ensemble, please contact Dr. Steven Pilkington.
The Parish Choir is a volunteer ensemble of church members and friends. Under the direction of Jacob Nelson, the Parish Choir rehearses weekly and performs regularly throughout the year on designated Sundays. This group is intended for those who love music and who would like to learn more about singing, but who may not have the time or prior experience necessary to participate in the Christ Church choir. If you are interested in learning more about the parish choir, please contact Jake!
The children of Christ Church also regularly participate in leading us in the worship of God. Under the direction of Johanna Olson, our children sing joyfully in age-appropriate music throughout the year. Choristers take part in our Sunday program which rehearses each week following worship.
Christ Church has one of the most dynamic and enthusiastic bell choirs in all of New York. Our adult handbell choir regularly participates in worship, bringing an energy, joy, and beauty to our worship experiences. The choir rehearses weekly, and while maintaining a high degree of excellence, welcomes anyone who is interested in making a joyful noise to the Lord.
The musical experience at Christ Church is so enjoyable that many members and visitors arrive early and remain late to treat themselves to works performed on the church’s renowned Casavant organ. Dr. Pilkington regularly performs the great works of the sacred repertoire.
