Water, Wind and Fire: The Holy Spirit in Scripture – Notes from Class 3

October 4th, 2016 by Brian Pinter

The Holy Spirit in the Prophetic Literature, Sunday, October 2.

In many prophetic texts we see that the Spirit is closely linked with divine presence; for example, a number of prophetic texts read “the spirit of the Lord came upon…”.  The spirit references in the prophets texts have much to teach us about the nature and characteristics of the spirit – she brings justice, healing, wisdom, renewal, purification and above all inspiration.  We recognize modern day spirit-inspired prophecy because it is balanced, i.e. while offering an accurate critique of the culture, the authentic prophet also offers a vision of hope for the future.

Some texts to consider: Isaiah 28:5-6, Isaiah 32:15, Isaiah 4:4, Ezekiel 2:2, Ezekiel 11:5, Isaiah 40:1, Isaiah 42:1, Isaiah 61:1-3
