Adult Forum: What Can We Know About the Historical Jesus?

Sunday, January 31, 2010

9:45 a.m.

Christ Church, Park Ave. & 60th St.

Since the dawn of the Enlightenment Christians have sought the Jesus of history: who was the man who taught, performed startling deeds and walked the roads of ancient Galilee, Samaria and Judea? Many have asked: what is the historical basis for the proclamation we find in the Gospels? This series will examine several events in the life of Jesus as well as his words and deeds with the goal of determining their historicity. Topics will include Jesus and John the Baptist, The Temptations accounts, the Transfiguration, the "Kingdom of God" teachings, the miracles of Jesus and how early Christians addressed the matter of unanswered prayers in light of Jesus words recorded in Matthew 7. Brian B. Pinter is the director of Campus Ministry and teacher of Religion at Regis High School and is a member of the ministerial planning committee for young adults at the Church of St. Ignatius Loyola. Classes will begin January 31.
